Facts and figures

Company: DACHSER Netherlands B.V.
Spokesperson: Cor Derksen, Fleet Manager DACHSER Zevenaar.
Website: www.dachser.nl
Number of employees: 30,600 employees worldwide, around 480 in the Netherlands.
Equipment: approximately 250 vehicles operate daily in the Zevenaar distribution area. Approximately half are used for domestic distribution and the other half for the scheduled daily export services to various European destinations.
Work locations: 6 locations in the Netherlands, 400 worldwide.

"How can we best describe your core business?"
“Our core business is groupage logistics. This involves carrying consolidated loads, in other words collecting pallets from multiple shippers for multiple destinations. These shipments are consolidated in our warehouses and then shipped to all European DACHSER locations on scheduled services. They then take care of the 'last mile' distribution.

The benefit to the customer is that by combining their cargo with other goods, we can offer them the best possible price. And in turn, this groupage system allows us to operate our fleet efficiently, with optimally loaded trucks. This allows us to achieve fixed, short transit times in a sustainable way. We are Europe's largest logistics service provider in groupage. In addition, our 'Cargo plus' business line handles all door-to-door shipments. Full trailer loads or part loads, direct from the shipper to the recipient."

"What is a unique aspect of your company?"
"The strong, dense DACHSER network of 400 dedicated locations in 44 countries means we are always close to the customer. And in addition, we have an efficient, uniform working method and a complete, IT-driven process which we have developed in-house."

"You have chosen for Full-Service box trailers from ICTS Group for both the short and the long term. Why?"
"ICTS is a long-term partner for us. ICTS trailers have been on the road in the DACHSER design since 2008, to our complete satisfaction. Furthermore, ICTS is flexible; in response to ad-hoc requests for additional equipment in the short term, but also in terms of delivery to or from different locations."

"What does 'good Fleet Management' mean to you?"
"Acting in timely fashion in response to need. From experience, we know our periodic peaks and by responding to the differences in demand for our fleet at an early stage, we can deploy our equipment as efficiently as possible. That's what we regard as good fleet management."

"What do you think is the most exciting aspect of your job as Fleet Manager?"
"I have a passion for haulage equipment. Monitoring it is very important; whether it's owned by us or external parties does not matter to me. From irregularity notifications, MOT and the necessary papers, to how the drivers look in DACHSER clothing: everything has to be in order."

"How does DACHSER differentiate itself in its fleet management compared to other parties?"
"We source all our units from external parties, which means we can concentrate on our core business of groupage. We focus completely on all the units we use; we make no distinction between leased or owned. All our trucks need to look good on the road, because the customer mustn't notice any difference. This is DACHSER's appearance. DACHSER also has a proprietary automated 'yard management system', which performs brilliantly. This system controls the movements of all the units on our site."

"What further objectives does DACHSER have?"
"We want to remain the best groupage carrier in Europe. We are continuously working to optimise the goods flows with the lowest environmental impact, so that we can continue to operate sustainably in the future. Of course, the ultimate objective remains keeping our customers fully satisfied because they have put their total logistics chains into our trusted and experienced hands."
